What’s in Black Buffalo and how’s it made?

The magic of the process is a trade secret but we'll say this: Our base leaves are widely available produce that you can find in any grocery store. We spent 5+ years figuring out how to make them behave like tobacco. We then add food safe ingredients and pharmaceutical grade nicotine. How does Black Buffalo compare to Traditional Smokeless Products?

We mean it when we say “Everything You Love, Nothing You Don’t”. It’s the closest thing to real dip you’ve ever seen, just without the actual tobacco. It took us more than five years to perfect the process.

Is Black Buffalo harmful or cancer-causing?

The FDA limits our ability to make any "harm reduction" or "modified risk" claims without extensive testing that can take years and cost millions of dollars. However, here's what we can say: Black Buffalo has no tobacco leaf, no tobacco stem, and we don't fire-cure or ferment our leaves. When tobacco is fire-cured and fermented in traditional dip, it leads to the formation of tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). We encourage you to read up on TSNAs and PAHs, their levels in traditional smokeless tobacco products, and their effects on the human body. After you do, you'll be in a much better position to make up your mind on the relative safety of Black Buffalo. To reiterate: Black Buffalo does not contain any tobacco leaf or stem and we don't fire-cure or ferment our leaves.

Does Black Buffalo contain nicotine or tobacco?

Nicotine: hell yes. Tobacco: nope. Black Buffalo contains tobacco-derived nicotine but no actual tobacco leaf or stem.

Does Black Buffalo have a nicotine-free version?

Not available right now, but maybe in the near future.

Does Black Buffalo offer other forms/flavors like Fine Cut, Natural, Peach Pouches, etc.?

Everything we have available is currently offered on our website. If we have plans to bring anything else back in stock, we'll make a ton of announcements here and across social media.

Can I try a sample of Black Buffalo to see if I like it?

For now, we only sell through our website, although we have plans to be in stores in the future.

How old do I have to be to buy Black Buffalo?

21. We understand that many states have an 18+ requirement to purchase nicotine based products. However, there is a lot of change occurring at the state and federal level and we must be mindful of this under regulation.

Why isn't the age-verification process working for me?

We use Veratad, which is one of the most sophisticated age-verification systems in the world. It works smoothly 99% of the time, but it can be sensitive in an effort to prevent fraud and underage purchasing. When attempting to age-verify, please make sure all your information is accurate and follow the tips/tricks we provide if you're running into trouble. How long does it take to receive my order?

It depends on where you live, but we typically fulfill orders within 24 hours after they’re placed and rely on the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for delivery. You will receive shipping confirmation and a tracking number as soon as your order has been sent. Please keep in mind, this is international shipping and we unfortunately don't have control over the speed at which your order moves. 

My order is delayed/lost, what do I do?

Keep in mind, we make the world's best tobacco alternative, but we don't hand-deliver it. If there's a delay or the shipment is lost, feel free to contact USPS directly. If you’re still not having any luck, hit us up at info@blackbuffalo.com.

How much does Black Buffalo cost?

Comparable to your favorite premium brands in the US, but from what we understand, quite competitive when it comes to Canada dip prices. Please check our Shop for current pricing and shipping rates.

Will I pay taxes when receiving my order of Black Buffalo?

Tobacco substitutes are not subject to excise duty, as they contain no tobacco, but they remain subject to the GST and the provincial sales tax (PST), or the harmonized sales tax (HST), calculated on the duty-paid value of the product (i.e., the price paid plus the applicable customs and excise duties). We are doing our best to provide border agents with as much information as possible to avoid any confusion.
